Data sources and missing data

Training values are easier to read when you know where they came from. Check whether a value is a planned target, a Momentum-recorded result, an imported Apple Health fact, or an estimate. An unavailable value means the required fact is missing, not that you recorded zero.

Start with the source

  • Planned work describes what you intend to do. It is not a record of completed training.
  • Momentum-recorded results describe the workout you recorded in Momentum, such as the reps and load you logged. Strength-set duration and distance shown in history can retain the targets you entered; they do not confirm how long or how far you actually worked.
  • Imported workouts contain facts read from Apple Health. Their details identify the source app or recording device.
  • Estimates are calculated values, not measurements. The strength builder's estimated duration, for example, is not recorded training time.

Follow a workout into your history

Open a workout on its date in Plan to review its details and source. Apple Health access is optional; it lets Momentum import eligible history alongside the training you record in Momentum.

An import does not prove that you completed a scheduled workout. Momentum needs a stable link before it counts the import toward that workout. Unlinked imports remain separate history, even when they share a date with planned work. Linked results keep their source attribution.

Read the gaps as carefully as the numbers

Apple Health access does not guarantee every measurement. A source app or device may record a workout without heart rate, energy, or a route. Access to the workout also does not establish access to every associated measurement.

Partial data means some facts are available and others are missing. A summary can use available facts while identifying the missing ones; do not read it as a complete set of measurements.

An empty reporting period differs from a workout with missing facts. Progress can show no training recorded, but it does not turn a workout's missing distance into zero. History may omit a missing metric instead of displaying an unavailable label. Completed does not fill those gaps.

An indoor workout may have no route. When Momentum displays a recorded route, it includes precise start and finish endpoints rather than masking them for privacy. Unusable location samples can leave gaps or no displayable route.

Keep the facts in context
