Understand Progress training data

A Progress workout count can be available while distance, duration, load, or a route is missing. Use the source label and availability message to understand which facts contribute to the value in front of you.

Follow the source and the gaps

Source labels and linked workouts

LabelMeaning in Progress
MomentumA workout from Momentum's recorded history.
Apple HealthAn imported workout without a link to a Momentum history session.
Momentum + Apple HealthLinked Momentum and Apple Health evidence for one workout.

In All Training, a linked workout appears in both the Momentum and Apple Health source filters, but only once in All. Do not add the two filtered counts to calculate the All total. Workouts without a link remain separate even if their times match.

A linked workout can combine facts from both sources:

  • Momentum keeps its workout title and outcome.
  • Duration uses recorded active time when available, then available linked Apple Health duration, then elapsed time between the Momentum workout's start and end. Elapsed time is not necessarily moving time.
  • Distance uses available linked Apple Health distance first, then recorded Momentum distance.

For a standalone imported workout, missing duration stays missing; Progress does not fill it from the workout's start and end times.

Zero, missing, and partial

What you seeHow to read it
Zero or no recorded workouts in a rangeNo contributing activity was found in the available records, or the contributing recorded value is zero. It does not prove no workout happened elsewhere.
An unavailable value for an existing workoutThe required measurement is missing. It is not a recorded zero.
A partial totalSome workouts contribute known values while others lack the required fact. The total is not scaled up to fill the gaps.
No comparisonRequired facts may be incomplete in one of the periods, or the selected scope has no preceding period.

Running, Cycling, and Swimming charts keep calendar buckets with no workouts. A bucket containing workouts with no distance is different: its distance is unavailable, not a zero-distance workout. Other charts may omit points that have no contributing measurements.

Availability messages describe known gaps in the loaded records. Their absence does not establish that every possible workout or measurement has arrived.

Why two views can count differently

All Training can include both completed and ended-early Momentum workouts. Consistency counts days with completed workouts, while Weekly Momentum uses its own rules for matching completed work to a plan.

An imported strength workout can contribute a session and duration without providing exercise names, sets, reps, or load. It need not appear as loaded exercise history in Strength Exercises.

Heart Rate includes workouts with available average heart rate or zone analysis. A workout with an average but no zone analysis can appear in recent workouts while the zone chart remains unavailable. Missing zone evidence is not a zero-duration reading.

What a view needs

Momentum history does not require Apple Health. Allow Apple Health access if you want imported workouts and available associated data included.

  • Distance and duration summaries need those workout facts, not route coordinates.
  • Loaded strength metrics need qualifying working sets with logged reps and load. Missing load does not become an assumed bodyweight value.
  • Zone charts need recorded zone durations, not just an average heart rate.
  • Training Map needs available Apple Health route data and route access in addition to a workout summary.

Read maps with their limits

Route privacy and display

Training Map shows the full displayable recorded route, including Start and Finish, without privacy-masking those endpoints. Before showing or sharing the screen, check whether the route reveals your home or another private location.

The display filters unusable points, keeps interrupted segments separate, and simplifies long routes while preserving the usable segment endpoints. It is not a claim that every raw location sample appears or that the route meets a particular measurement accuracy.

Closing Training Map clears its loaded route coordinates. It does not delete the recorded route from Apple Health.

Missing routes and safe next steps

The map queries at most the 40 most recent eligible workouts for the selected range and route type. A broad range can therefore show a limited set, not your entire route history—even with All selected. Choosing a more specific Route type focuses the queries on that activity; retrying does not remove the limit.

Open Water shows returned routes for swimming workouts; it does not include every swim or independently verify where a swim took place.

Map stateWhat you can do
Access has not been reviewedUse Review Access to review Apple Health route access.
No Outdoor RoutesUse Retry to query again, or Review Access to review access. No returned route can mean that none was recorded or that read access is unavailable; the app cannot distinguish those cases.
Some route queries failedKeep using the routes that loaded, or choose Retry Route Queries.
The map could not loadUse Try Again. A failed query does not establish that the recorded route is absent.

Allowing access cannot create a route that was never recorded, and a workout's distance does not prove its route is available.
